Troubleshooting

Warning: This guide is not designed for homeowners to repair their garage doors. A garage door should only be repaired by a trained professional. Failure to hire a professional may result in severe injury or damage to the existing components.

Garage Doors

Opening or Closing Issues:

If you're having issues operating your garage door without trouble, your garage door may be experiencing one or more of the following issues:

  • Your garage door is out of balance: To identify this issue, disengage your garage door opener from the garage door. Next, you want to open your door and let it rest halfway through manually. If your garage door is shooting upwards or slamming shut, you need a tune-up service and possibly a spring and roller replacement. Call us to schedule a professional to come to your home for repairs.

  • Your garage door spring is broken: Look at the header above your garage door to identify this issue. You will find a shaft with a single or dual spring assembly attached. Inspect it for any broken springs; in most cases, you can identify this issue without getting too close to the spring. If this is the case, refrain from attempting a repair on your own, as this is a hazardous task that a professional garage door technician should do.

  • Your garage door cable(s) are loose or broken: to identify this issue, look at the sides of your garage door. You will find a cable connecting the bottom of your garage door to the top. Inspect it for any frayed or broken wires. If this is the case, refrain from attempting a repair on your own, as this is a hazardous task that a professional garage door technician should do.

  • Misaligned, blocked, or dirty sensors: If your garage door is opening but not closing correctly, you can inspect for faulty sensors. This is identified by checking for the following: are your sensors aligned? Is there a light blinking on one sensor? Are they dirty? These questions will help you, on most occasions, solve your garage door operation issues.

  • Rough or noisy operating door: If your door operates manually and automatically but makes excessive noise or seems to build friction between its components. It would be best if you had a tune-up service and roller replacement. Just like doing maintenance on your vehicle, this is an essential service for your garage door to avoid more expensive repairs in the future.

*Emergency release: In a power outage, you may manually operate your garage door by pulling on the red emergency release rope or cord and lifting your garage door.
